Manhattan Young Democrats (MYD) has joined millions of New Yorkers to watch in the train wreck that is their State Senate grind to a complete halt over the past few weeks.
There are many directions towards which we can point the finger of blame in this debacle, but none more so than State Senator Pedro Espada, Jr. In playing a part in the GOP+2 coup, he has clearly shown he is willing to put his own interests above those of the people he purports to represent and New Yorkers across the state, who voted for a Democratic majority in last year's elections. Not only that, he is a lawmaker that does not respect the law--he is delinquent in his campaign finance filings and is under investigation by both AG Cuomo and the Bronx DA for his numerous shady dealings. (Gothamist) Previously, he asked for $2M to give to "charities" he is affiliated with in the Bronx, and was rejected. (MYD) He has also shown a clear lack of understanding in parliamentary procedure by suggesting he deserves two votes since claiming the title of President Pro Tem.
The idea that Senator Espada will hold a leadership position in the Senate of any sort after the past few weeks is laughable. No Democrat can obstruct a progressive agenda in the way that he did and still be allowed to run with a "D" next to his name.
To say that we young Dems are pissed off about this clown would be an understatement.

MYD will set aside any profit off of these shirts to be used AGAINST Pedro Espada Jr.'s 2010 campaign, if such a thing actually materializes.
